Virtua Tennis: World Tour is the PSP incarnation of Sega’s Virtua Tennis series. Players can take on the role of professional tennis players such as Roger Federer or Maria Sharapova on courts around the world. In addition to the Exhibition and Tournament modes, you can create a custom player and play through the World Tour mode. Virtua Tennis: World Tour also allows players to engage in small games to build statistics and challenge up to four other players in Versus mode.
Developed by Sumo Digital and SEGA, World Tour stands as one of the best reasons to own a PSP, or if you already have one, it’s one of the best games you can get. The World Tour offers the same type of fast, fun, and engaging gameplay found in the arcades and Dreamcast classics. Being portable, it adds an extra level of coolness. Fans of the series will find little to complain about here and will surely praise virtua tennis world tour for PSP as the best tennis game since then.
It’s not just a game for the masses. It’s not a specialized title that requires a specific commitment scale to enjoy. Above all, ease of access is what sets Virtua Tennis apart. Anyone can pick it up and enjoy. Fans of the series know this, but newcomers to the series will discover what they’ve been missing. And what exactly is that? Well, if you’re wondering, the Virtua Tennis series is known for blending simple game mechanics with highly addictive gameplay. That’s essentially what makes it stand out. You can learn how to play within minutes, but it takes weeks to master the subtle differences on each court and character. This has remained true in every iteration of the series from the original Arcade game to the famous Dreamcast port and finally to the PS2 release. Since things haven’t changed with the PSP, World Tour relies on the successful formula of its predecessors, adds new modes and mini-games, throws in a great multiplayer mode, and essentially keeps everything as it is. Keeping the World Tour close to its predecessors as much as possible is not a bad thing. But anyone looking for a highly altered and improved version of the classic Dreamcast won’t find it here. Virtua Tennis is still a great game, as it has always been.
Game Modes:
World Tour: In this mode, players create a male and female tennis player and try to climb the ranks to become number 1. Between tournaments, players can participate in mini-games to level up their player’s skills.
Quick Match: Players choose a tennis player, the opponent, and the court for a quick match.
Mini-Games: A selection of mini-games using tennis mechanics.
Tournament: Players choose their tennis player and try to win the tournament by winning six matches. The courts are chosen automatically.
Exhibition: Players choose the tennis player, opponent, and court for a single match.
Multiplayer: Players can use the PSP’s Wi-Fi network to connect with up to three other players for multiplayer gaming.
