Gurumin is a 3D role-playing game for the PSP that heavily focuses on action through real-time combat. The main character, Parin, can acquire different headgear with varying effects during equipment, such as protection from water damage, strong attacks, or HP recovery. Each piece of headgear can be upgraded to increase its effectiveness. Parin’s training has up to four energy levels that increase through battle points or recovery in levels and decrease through damage exposure. The current training level determines the damage she can deal and can fluctuate up and down frequently in each level. Various consumable items can be purchased or found and used during levels to restore HP or drilling power.
Gurumin offers replayability by providing new difficulty levels upon completing the game. The game starts with Beginner and Normal modes; Hard, Happy, and Crazy modes are unlocked with completing the previous difficulty level. While each difficulty alters the strength of enemies, some also change other elements of the game, such as removing environmental hazards in Beginner mode, altering the game text in Happy mode (Japanese version only), and allowing damage to enemies only through critical hits in Crazy mode.
In addition to headgear that grants characters different abilities and protection, there are also various outfits that can be equipped. Matching the appropriate outfit with the right headgear can unlock additional abilities. Outfits can be obtained through purchase from the vendor, completing the game on a specific difficulty level, or through other means, such as playing on the correct date during an event.
